Sustainable Swim Robes

Wildly Kind to Mother Earth

We need the Earth. Our oceans, corals, reefs, wildlife, forests, mountains, and rivers, all together are our lungs and the only reason why we are still alive. The natural world is beauty in its very essence and an endless source of inspiration.

Creating a sustainable swim robe that you can enjoy for a lifetime, without having an impact on the environment you like to spend your time, was pretty straightforward for us at Wild One.

Eco, Circular, Recycled

These aren’t buzzwords for us. Sustainability is woven into each swim robe, to the point where it was either to be eco or not to be. Ethically-made in a London-based factory, we worked closely in the design of the piece and choose to use resources that are too good to go.

Reusable Packaging

We work with a zero-waste approach, and for this reason, we came up with an incredibly useful washing bag. The Wild Bag is meant to be used every time you wash your swim robe or any other garment made out of polyester fibers, like your swimwear or sports apparel, for instance. In fact, every household should have a Wild Bag. Reason? Microplastics!

Microplastics are small pieces of plastic less than 5mm that persist in the environment, particularly in aquatic and marine ecosystems. Unfortunately, synthetic fibres, such as polyester, nylon and acrylic, are widely used for fabrics (about 60% of our clothes)! When worn and washed, up to 700,000 microfibres can come off, making their way into our rivers and seas pretty fast. We know neither of us wanted to contribute to the plastic sea, therefore we’ve worked our way around the problem by providing you with a reusable Wild Bag to use in every single wash for your clothes containing synthetic fibres.

How does Wild One contribute to the United Nations SDGs?

Wild One is a powerful lifestyle brand that supports the practice of sports in the great outdoors and provides useful and well-made swim robes for those who are in touch with our blue spaces. We hold high sustainable and ethical values, and therefore we have aligned our impact model with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The SDG’s provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

Here’s some highlights on how Wild One is contributing to some of the SDG3, SDG5, SDG12, SDG13, SDG14, SDG15.

Good Health & Wellbeing

Ensuring healthy lives for all requires a strong commitment, but the benefits outweigh the cost. Healthy people are the foundation for healthy economies. In the past decade, improvements in health and health care led to a 24% increase in income growth in some of the poorest countries. The SDG3 has a strong focus on promoting maternal health, preventing diseases in newborns and children, but also puts its attention on mental health.

Mental health disorders such as depression are among the twenty leading causes of disability worldwide. Depression affects around 300 million people worldwide and this number is projected to increase. Fewer than half of those people affected have access to adequate treatment and health care.

Wild One promotes supports the SDG3 by promoting the practice of sports in a natural environment, which is largely beneficial to ensure good health & wellbeing.

Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment

Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Advancing gender equality is critical to all areas of a healthy society, from reducing poverty to promoting the health, education, protection and well-being of girls and boys.

The target of the SDG5 is to ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life.

Wild One has a strong focus on gender equality and especially women empowerment. As a female-founded company, we have created a brand that promotes unity and success stories of women practising sport. We do love all women equally, regardless of their age, body size, skin colour or sexual orientation. We wish our Wild One tribe to come together, share their physical and mental health journey and feel empowered through the unity and celebration of our beautiful Mother Earth.

Responsible Consumption & Production

The SDG12 works towards the goal to ensure responsible consumption and production patterns. Should the global population reach 9.6 billion by 2050, the equivalent of almost three planets could be required to provide the natural resources needed to sustain current lifestyles. If we don’t act to change our consumption and production patterns, we will cause irreversible damage to our environment. The mission is to achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources.
Wild One contributes to the SDG12 by improving resource efficiency and creating less waste. The swim robes are made out of recycled materials and produced as sustainably as possible to reduce the carbon footprint. As a brand, we also are on a mission to co-create a circular economy, which is producing no waste and no pollution, by design or intention – not just by reusing and recycling things – but also by repairing them, designing them to last longer and finding more sustainable business models. Extending product life, reusing, remanufacturing and recycling products both reduces the need for new resources and reduces the impacts from waste disposal. Finally, our OEKTO-TEX certified textiles and dyes are guaranteed health safety standards to avoid people or our environment being exposed to inappropriate toxic chemicals. Beyond the environment, Wild One also partners with a factory that cares about the people and ensures fair trade wages and safe working conditions. We have thoroughly measured our positive impact and contribution right on the sustainability section above.

Climate Action

From a small farmer in the Philippines to a businessman in London, climate change is affecting everyone, especially the poor and vulnerable, as well as marginalized groups like women, children, and the elderly. We are seeing how climate change can exacerbate storms and disasters, and threats such as food and water scarcity, which can lead to conflict. Oceans have warmed, the amounts of snow and ice have diminished and the sea level has risen. Given current concentrations and ongoing emissions of greenhouse gases, the world’s average surface temperature is likely to surpass 3 degrees centigrade this century.

If we act on climate action, our society as a whole will improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning.

Wild One contributes to the SDG13 on Climate Action by producing swim robes with a sustainable approach, using a London-based factory that is dedicated to reducing the carbon footprint. Besides being locally based, ApparelTASKER uses a zero-waste approach to garment production, uses only eco-friendly packaging as well as a more environmentally conscious shipping service, offers repair and circular programs, plus disposes of technology and machines that drastically increase energy savings.

Life Below Water

The world’s oceans – their temperature, chemistry, currents and life – drive global systems that make the Earth habitable for humankind. Our rainwater, drinking water, weather, climate, coastlines, much of our food, and even the oxygen in the air we breathe, are all ultimately provided and regulated by the sea. Throughout history, oceans and seas have been vital conduits for trade and transportation. Oceans absorb about 30% of carbon dioxide produced by humans, buffering the impacts of global warming. Unfortunately, open ocean sites show current levels of acidity have increased by 26% since the start of the Industrial Revolution. Coastal waters are deteriorating due to pollution and eutrophication. And these are just some of the challenges we face with our oceans. Careful management of this essential global resource is a key feature of a sustainable future.

Wild One has pledged to keep our oceans clean. Just by producing our swim robes more sustainably, and manufacturing in a facility that is committed to the environmental cause, as well as the use of OEKTO-TEX quality standard materials made out of recycled plastic bottles, each garment you buy with us contributes to xxxxx impact xxxx.

Furthermore, we are highly aware of the microplastics problem caused by clothes, especially synthetic fibres. Therefore our packaging is a reusable Wild Bag that mitigates the release of polyester in our waterways, seas and rivers. On top of that, we have partnered up with 1% for the Planet and give back to an environmental non-profit that ensures keeping our oceans clean.

Life on Land: Biodiversity, forests, desertification

Biodiversity delivers multiple services from local to global levels, while responses to biodiversity loss range from emotional to utilitarian. For instance, insects and other pollen carriers are estimated to be worth more than US$200 billion per year to the global food economy. Three-quarters of the top-ranking global prescription drugs contain components derived from plant extracts, which would be threatened. Natural disasters caused by ecosystems disrupted by human impact and climate change already cost the world more than US$300 billion per year. Deforestation and forest degradation results in loss of habitat for all species, a decrease in freshwater quality, an increase in soil erosion, land degradation and higher emissions of carbon into the atmosphere. In short, not taking action on forests impacts both the health of the planet and our communities.

The goal is to sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, reverse land degradation, and halt biodiversity loss. The SDG15 wants to ensure the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and their services, in particular forests, wetlands, mountains and drylands, in line with obligations under international agreements

Wild One contributes to the preservation of life on land by spreading awareness on the importance of our beautiful Mother Earth, from its oceans, corals, reefs, wildlife, forests, mountains, rivers, and everything in between. We share the joy of practising sports in the great outdoors and build a community that is dedicated to the love of our planet and all the wild living creatures on it. We produce our swim robes without taking limited resources from the earth, as we choose to recycle existing materials under OEKTO-TEX standards as well as a sustainable factory, that works with high ethics to avoid contributing to the current environmental damage of the fashion industry, and instead guarantee a continuous reduction of the carbon footprint.
